An Open Letter to My Younger Self

You’re 23 now, and I couldn’t be more proud of you. You look so small here, and I’m sorry to spoil it but you don’t get much bigger! Life won’t be anything you expect it to be, but it’s a good life nonetheless. It could’ve gone south, and sometimes it did, but through it all, you find yourself again. Be young, play, laugh and don’t take yourself so seriously. They’re right, you never get these years back. You’ll have enough time to play “writing documents” on the computer, apparently, it’s called college.

Listen to your parents, they’re right most of the time. (It shocked me too.) Spend more time writing stories, writing in your diary and writing poems. Your teachers won’t always like what you write, but please don’t let that discourage you, we all have to start somewhere.

Stop worrying. Don’t worry about what you’re going to be, or what you’re going to do next because it all works out. Don’t spend time worrying about the past or any mistakes you make either. It is what it is, and if you changed anything, I wouldn’t be me!

I want to thank you. Thank you for being resilient and determined. Thank you for being curious and asking questions. Thank you for giving the world another chance because you get hurt…a lot. Thank you for softening your heart again and giving me the chance to live honestly. Thank you for never giving up on me. Every obstacle you faced, made me stronger. Every situation you got through, has made me, me. I love you and I can’t wait to see what you give back to the world.
